My husband and I moved to northern Michigan after living in the north Georgia mountains for a few years. We grew up in Ohio, and have also lived in central Kentucky and southern Florida. Education and career opportunities took us to the other locations, but the abundant natural beauty – and the easy access to it – brought us Up North.
In the decade we’ve lived here, I’ve shot the northern lights, ice caves, lighthouses, shipwrecks, untold miles of lakeshore and woodlands, and I still regularly stumble upon inspiring new destinations. Michigan’s distinct seasons add even more interest: I enjoy revisiting previously photographed locations as the seasons progress, seeking new details, lighting, reflections, and moods.
I appreciate Northern Michigan as a community and place, and I hope my photography expresses my gratitude, while encouraging people to get out and experience it for themselves.
